Flogging: Ogun state government suspends teacher over student’s death
The Ogun State Government has suspended a teacher alleged to have beaten and punished a Senior Secondary School (SS2) student Monday Arijo of Obada Grammar School, Obada, Idi-Emi, which reportedly led to his death on Friday.
Penpushing reports that this was made known in a statement by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, adding that the teacher was also arrested while queried issued to the Principal of the School Mrs. Tamrat Onaolapo alleged to have ordered the corporal punishment
The statement added that the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology gave the Principal 24 hours to explain her actions and why disciplinary actions should not be taken against her for acting against the instructions of constituted authority.
Penpushing further reports that the authorities in same vein in a letter signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry commiserated with family of the late student and assured of getting justice for the family
The statement described the late learner as an exceptional pupil who would be missed by his colleagues, the school, and the state at large, and prayed for requisite strength for the family to bear the irreplaceable loss as well as for the repose of the departed soul.
