Five people killed in Enugu state road accident
Five people were killed and fifteen others seriously injured in a road accident involving two vehicles which resulted in a head-on collision while using a single lane on the Enugu-Awka-Onitsha Road on Thursday.
Penpushing reports the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander in Enugu State, Joseph Toby, confirmed the incident, explaining that 15 people which include 10 males and five females were seriously injured in the accident.
The Sector Commander said twenty persons were in the two commercial vehicles; adding that the five that died were three male and two female occupants, disclosing that the injured were taken to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu and a private hospital on the Enugu-Awka-Onitsha Expressway.
Penpushing further reports that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) boss said corpses of the deceased were deposited at the Colliery Hospital mortuary in Enugu, as at the time of filing this report, and blamed the accident on a lack of lane discipline, over-speeding and brake failure.
Meanwhile, witnesses, posited that the accident was as a result of the poor state of the road which compelled many motorists to drive against traffic rather than use the failed lane of the dual-carriageway.
