FIRST WOMEN RADIO IN NIGERIA, WFM 91.7 TO ESTABLISH NEW STATIONS IN ALL GEO-POLITICAL ZONES

The Managing Director who  expressed  gratitude to every Nigerian Woman, Government and Private Agencies, and especially donor agencies for embracing Women Radio 91.7, said the establishment of additional stations was to further  amplify voices of local woman in alignment with national discourse.

Penpushing further reports that, the Voice of Women (VOW) Conference and Awards which was declared open by the First Lady of Nigeria, Dr. Mrs Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, was an initiative of Voice of Women Empowerment Foundation in partnership with Women Radio.

The First Lady, while speaking said the establishment of Nigeria’s 1st and only Women Radio is an achievement for all and commended it’s leadership for the excellent work in giving voices to Nigerian women, providing safe spaces to come together in sisterhood across ethnic, religious and political lines to reflect and strengthen the bond for the collective advancement of Nigerian women.

Penpushing also reports that, , the Director MacArthur Foundation Africa, Dr. Kole Shettima  who gave keynote address on ‘Economic Contribution of Nigerian Women and the Global Benefit.’ stated  that the effort of women in political and economic development can’t be over emphasised .

The Director pointed out that, women have always been a key factor of economic advancement in Nigeria, and urged them to stand up like the women of old (Aba Women’s Riot) and engage in credible activities to get the recognition they deserve rather than stay silent and be trampled upon.

Penpushing reports that at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria Women Trust Fund Mufuliat Fijabi set the agenda for the three high powered panels of thoughtful leaders and practitioners in the public, private and social sectors across inter-generational divide on strengthening the Nigerian Women Agenda of advancing women’s socio-Economic and political interest.

The Wife of the Vice President, Mrs Dolapo Osinbanjo  in her speech, encouraged  Nigerian Women to be bold and assertive, putting away fear and dare to go on the road that everyone thinks is impossible for the Nigerian Woman, stressing that  Women indeed elevate Nigeria.

The Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq who received award for his unprecedented record of 56% women inclusion in his cabinet, urged Nigerian Women to be up and doing in making the country great, while the Ekiti State first lady Erelu Bisi Fayemi condemned the gender inequality gap still existing on a large scale in the country.

Penpushing further reports that, the First Lady of Nigeria, Dr. Mrs Aisha Muhammadu Buhari was awarded VOW Woman of the Year 2019 for her work on the Future Assured Project and Advocacy on Women and girls.

The other awardees include AirPeace for achieving over 95% women representation at Senior Management level, Nigerian Export Promotion Council, Medicaid Cancer Foundation, Eleganza Industries, Esther Ijewere and lifetime achievement for Late Dr. Stella Adadevoh.

Meanwhile, the panelists at the ceremony are Senator Biodun Olujimi, Nnenna Jacob-Agogo, Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji, Dr. Mustapha, Soromidayo George, Dr. Jessica Okanlawon, Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, Austin Aigbe, Ndi Kato, Kiki Mordi, Bukky Shonibare  and Hon. Nnena Elendu Ukeje, while the moderators were Tosin Dokpesi, Ebere Ifendu and Inimfon Etuk.
