BUHARI IS ALSO CULPABLE OF REVOLUTION CAMPAIGN, SAYS FALANA

“Even a coup that sustains the statuesque has been said not to be a revolution by the Supreme Court. Buhari called for a revolution in 2011 like that of Egypt which was evidently violent.Only in 1948 was someone charged for staging a protest. And the charge was sedition,” he said.”

The legal luminary said the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President, Muhammadu Buhari staged protests after they lost elections in 2003, adding  that Buhari also called for a protest like that of Egypt, and equally  cited various prominent cases of people who were charged with treasonable felony and granted bail on self recognizance.

Penpushing further reports that Falana cited   Ahmed Tinubu, leader of All Progressives Congress (APC) as one of those who were granted bail on self recognizance, adding that  the late Moshood Abiola was also granted bail after he was charged with the same treasonable felony.

The Senior Advocate ,therefore  asked the court to grant Sowore bail on self recognizance, arguing that  there were many politicians facing trails on alleged fraud to the tune of billions of naira who were currently on bail.

Penpushing also reports that  Falana declared that  the evidence against his client, according to the prosecution, does not indicate any known offence besides the protest, stressing that various courts had decided on the rights of Nigerians to peaceful protest.

The counsel stated  that the court had ruled during a case instituted by All Progressives Congress(APC)  that a police permit was unnecessary for the conduct of protests in a free society, adding that the prosecution had argued that  Sowore may jump bail like the separatist leader, Nnamdi Kanu, an argument he faulted.
