Fire guts Radio Nigeria office in Lagos
A raging fire on Wednesday evening erupted at the premises of Radio Nigeria located on Plot number 35, Ikoyi Road, Ikoyi, Lagos State and engulfed the studio section of the U-shaped one-storey building.
Penpushing reports the fire incident which occurred at about 5.30pm was confirmed via official X of the account Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) warning commuters to avoid the area as emergency teams battled the inferno.
The incident prompted swift emergency response from multiple fire stations across the state, while as at the time of filing this report all the roads have been blocked for motorists to go through alternative routes.
Penpushing further reports that firefighters from Dolphin, Ebute Elefun, and Oba Oniru Fire Stations were first on the scene, supported by the Federal Fire Service, the Nigeria Police Force, and other emergency responders.
The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, was quoted saying that the agency’s swift intervention prevented the fire from spreading beyond the studio section, adding that no casualities reported as at the time arrival at the scene.
“Although the fire was well-alight when we arrived, collaborative efforts with our partners have contained it. No casualties have been reported, and damping down of the fire embers is currently ongoing,” she added.
Penpushing also reports that as at the time of filing this report the cause of the fire remains unknown, but investigations are underway, while the authorities have assured the public that additional updates will be provided as the situation evolves.
Meanwhile, in same vein the authorities have advised motorists and residents to exercise caution and cooperate with emergency responders as they work to restore normalcy in the area and environs.
