Fire guts popular Abeokuta market, as fuel tanker catches fire

A fire outbreak has occurred on Sunday morning at the popular Lafenwa market in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital, as a fully loaded PMS laden tanker fell on the railway line and spilled its contents.

Penpushing reports that, the incident occurred at about 4.45am when the driver of the tanker making his way inbound rounder from Oju-Irin, Lafenwa, suddenly lost control, spilling it’s content  in the process process and caught fire

The fire as at the time of filing this report, was spreading fast, as motorists and passerby were seen running helter skelter to escape being caught in the inferno, while officials of the Fire Service, Police, Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) and Ogun State Traffic Control Agency were already on ground to control the situation.

Penpushing further reports that, as at the time of filing this report, no life is lost, or anybody caught in the web of the incident, but traffic along the axis has remained standstill, with a call on motorists and passerby to avoid the route

The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enlightenment Agency,Babatunde Akinbiyi, who also confirmed the incident said  the mentioned agencies are working assiduously to restore normalcy in he area,.

‘The general public, particularly the motoring public, domiciled or moving around the axis are urged to remain calm and co-operative by avoiding scooping of fuel, use of handset and cooking gas so as not to spark off a fire’,Akinbiyi emphasised.

‘Moreover, the motoring public going inward Rounder axis from Lafenwa, should use Olomore and Oke-Ata axis respectively as alternative routes, since traffic has been diverted towards that axis presently’, he added.
