Fire guts home of controversial Islamic cleric, Gumi

The residence of the controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi was on Saturday gutted by fire in Kaduna, Kaduna State, with part of the residence damaged and properties worth millions of naira consumed by the inferno

Penpushing reports that, the son of ransom negotiator between federal government and bandits, Mubarak was reported to have confirmed the incident, adding that the fire incident started around 3 p.m.

The son explained that the fire was suspected to be caused by electric sparks, adding that  no life was lost and that  the books of the cleric were also not affected by the disaster, stressing that neighbors and firefighters helped in putting out the fire and prevented more havoc.

Penpushing further reports that, Mubarak commended the firefighters and neighbours who helped in putting out the fire, just as information has it that, his father had recently maintained a low profile on his roles with bandits.

The Islamic cleric, it is recalled had sometime in subtle defence of bandits, said they were forced by hardship and circumstances to pick up arms against the state, hence his recent to visit them in their enclaves  to encourage them to surrender.

Penpushing also reports that, Gumi’s defence received criticism from many Nigerians, while records equally has it that he had often kicked against the use of military force to resolve the insecurity in the region, instead advocating dialogue.
