
Fire guts Free Trade Zone in Ogun state, consumes nearby houses, as police take charge of security
The Guangdong Free Trade Zone in Igbesa, Ogun State, was on Sunday gutted by a massive fire which rapidly spread from an industrial facility to adjacent residential areas, as the smoke billowing into the sky
Penpushing reports that as at the time of filing this report the cause of the fire was unknown and well if there were any casualties of injuries, but responders were seen arriving to combat the blaze amid chaotic scenes as residents evacuated the area.
The sources, however, explained that the incident began around dawn and is believed to have originated from a gas explosion at a foam-producing company within the industrial park, and the fire escalated, damaging several nearby homes before firefighters could intervene.

Penpushing further reports that Director of the Ogun State Fire Service, Fatai Adefala, confirmed the incident adding that emergency teams from Agbara and Ota were on the ground to quell the fire.
The Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Seyi Babaseyi in his X page explained that following the fire incident operatives of the command have been on ground at the scene to oversee the situation.
‘Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have been on ground at the Ogun Guandong Free Trade Zone, Igbesa,since a distress call was received over an ongoing fire incident’, Babaseyi wrote.
‘The DPO, Igbesa Division, is overseeing the situation, while police operatives maintain security as the fire service engages the fire, which has since been contained. Members of the public are advised to remain calm and avoid the vicinity’, he added
