FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE WANTS RETURN OF CASSAVA BREAD PRODUCTION

However, Kolawole declared that the institution (Funnab) was capable for the mass production, if the Federal Government makes funds available, disclosing that the Federal University of Agriculture has been producing cassava for over ten years.

‘I want to call on the Federal Government to encourage production of bread. We are involved in its conception. I don’t know why Federal Government is not promoting the production. FUNNAB can do it if we get funds. We shall provide enough for consumption’.

The Vice-Chancellor also disclosed that the institution do not only limit its activities to academic, but venture into research, and production of other consumable  items such as oil palm production, Cashew, honey, soya bean and bakery among others.

He also said, Federal Government should invest more in research, adding that if money is provided for the research, it should also be effectively monitored, and equally called on Federal Government to provide enabling environment.

Penpushing reports that, the Director Cassava Partnership for 21st Century, Prof Malachi Akoroda in his remark called on African countries to go into alliance on Cassava production, affirming that many African countries depends on Cassava.

He disclosed that, 106 countries have been established to be producing cassava, stressing that the product is the most efficient, and not only meant as food consumption, but can also be use to power engines.

‘There is need for African countries to go into alliance. 106 countries produce cassava, with many of them in Africa. Cassava is not only for food consumption, but can be use to power engines. It is the most efficient, it can capture solar power for 12 months non-stop’,Akoroda said
