FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SIGNS MOU WITH OGUN TO REVIVE 31 YEAR OLD MORIBUND WATER PROJECT

The Minister explained that it is against this background that the Ministry was strategizing to ensure the country take proactive steps towards implementing programmes and projects that will enable it meet SDG-WASH targets.

In his speech, Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun said the occasion was significant, adding that signing of the Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) on the stagnated Ota Water Supply Rehabilitation Project; and the Partnership for Expanded Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (PEWASH) programme respectively, alongside the Federal Ministry of Water Resources was a further demonstration of the synergy that exists between the State and the Federal Government.

 ‘It is also a practical illustration of the commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari to the overall development of all sectors of our economy in order to improve the lives of Nigerians in different parts of the nation.

Amosun said,no doubt, the resuscitation of this Water Project, which has been stagnated for years, and the initiation of the PEWASH programme targeted at bridging the gap in rural water supply and sanitation are long overdue.

‘It is to our delight that both programmes are now finally seeing the light of day. The significance of both the Water Supply Project for Ota Metropolis and its environs; and the PEWASH programme which on its own is a State-wide Scheme is not lost on our Administration’, the governor stated.

‘Today’s ceremony, therefore, is a further demonstration of the success of our Mission to Rebuild Ogun State, which is a commitment of our Administration to continue to seek ways of making life more comfortable and abundant for our people. In doing this, we have continued to not only embark upon ambitious legacy projects, but, also we have continued to partner and collaborate with relevant Agencies, both domestic and international, to attract projects to our dear State. The culmination of one of our concerted efforts so far is what we are witnessing today’, Amosun emphasised.
