Enugu state police command confirms murder of chairman traders’ association

The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the murder of the Chairman of Ogbete Main Market Traders Association (OMATA), Enugu, Stephen Aniago by unknown gunmen on Saturday night, saying police operatives are on the trail of the assailants

Penpushing reports that the Command Public Relations Officer, Dan Ndukwe made this known in a statement, explaining that the victim was shot dead by unknown gunmen at Topland, along Amechi Road, Enugu, around 8:20 p.m. of September 14, 2024.

The police spokesperson said preliminary investigation revealed that the unknown armed hoodlums, operating in another Toyota Corolla car, double-crossed and shot the victim, making away with his blue-coloured Toyota Corolla car.

Penpushing further reports that Ndukwe said the victim was taken to the hospital by police operatives who hastened to the scene but was confirmed dead by Doctors, adding that the corpse had being deposited in the mortuary for preservation and continued investigative.

The statement said Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu has ordered tactical squads of the command to be on the trail of the assailants and to deploy all the intelligence and operational resources at their disposal to hunt the criminals down.

Penpushing also reports that Uzuegbu equally ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to conduct a discreet investigation to unravel the circumstances of the incident.

The police boss, however, assured the public that the command will leave no stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators of the dastardly act to book soonest.

Penpushing reports that Governor Peter Mbah has given security agencies 48 hours to fish out killers of the biggest market boss, as he vowed that his administration will not allow the attackers to go unpunished in the state.

The Governor in a statement by his media team commiserated with the family of the deceased, assuring that the assailants will be fish out at all cost, boasting that there are technology, and resources to pursue and track down the criminals

“I have directed security agencies in the state to produce his killers within 48 hours. As we have always maintained, and every merchant of death or criminal in the state ought to know by now, that we have demonstrated the capacity to bring them to book,” he said.

“We have the will, technology, and resources to pursue, track down, overtake, and defeat such workers of wickedness. The government and people of Enugu State grieve with them. But I urge them to find solace in the service he rendered to our dear state and the fact that his killers will never go scot-free. It is a promise,” he stated.

Penpushing further reports that he emphasized that the security agencies and the state government will not sleep until the killers are tracked down, just as he appealed to residents to go about their lawful businesses, adding that the perpetrators of the crime will soon meet their waterloo

“I urge Ndi Enugu to go about their lawful businesses, for the security of lives and property remains our priority as a government. Those who have decided to test our resolve will meet their waterloo like others before them’, Mbah assured.
