Eighteen African Countries are to participate in the maiden edition of the Abeokuta 10 kilometer race, with total number of forty athletes which holds on Saturday between the hours of 6am to 2pm in the Ogun State Capital.
Penpushing reports that, the initiator and Chief Executive Officer of Nilayo Sports Management, Bukola Olopade made this known at a press conference held Friday night at Conference Hotels and Suite located along Presidential Boulevard, Abeokuta.
The facilitator who was a former Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development in Ogun State said, perfect arrangements for the successful marathon race are in place, with the arrival of all participants as at the time of filing this report,
Penpushing further reports that, Olopade said, ’my team has work tremendously, and the race will shock many people’, adding that the Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun and his government had declared support for the event.
The former Commissioner popularly called Ozogula , pointed out that the tournament is historical adding that it is homecoming for him, being a native of Abeokuta, stressing that similar race will be extended to other parts of the State in due course.
Penpushing also reports that, the President of Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Ibrahim Gozo in his remarks commended the facilitator, sponsors and Ogun State Government for supporting the event, adding that, with the race, Abeokuta has again being brought to the world map.
The President emphasized that, with the support of the Ogun State Government, it shows that the marathon race is authentic, and also encouraged participants to make the event memorable in making it regular.
Penpushing further reports that, a release has it that, the designated routes for the race include; Iyana Oloke-Panseke-Omida-Isale-Igbein,Sapon-Ago-Oko-Ake roundabout-Itoko-Arinlese-Saje-Adatan roundabout-Ake Palace
