Eid-el-Kabir celebration goes beyond slaughtering rams, says Soyinka
A frontline broadcast journalist and Egba Chief, Olalekan Shoyinka has urged Muslim faithful to celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir with love, respect, and unwavering hope for a better tomorrow, stressing that the ceremony is not just about slaughtering rams.
Penpushing reports that Shoyinka popularly called Ayinla Egba made the call in his message to congratulate Muslims across the country, stressing that the holy season is a reminder of the deep meaning behind Prophet Ibrahim obedience and sacrifice
‘As we gather with family, friends, and loved ones to celebrate this sacred Eid al-Adha (Ileya Festival), I, Honourable (Chief) Olálekàn Teslim Shóyínká, popularly known as Ayínlá Ẹgbá, greet you with love, respect, and unwavering hope for a better tomorrow’, he wrote
‘This holy season reminds us of the deep meaning behind Prophet Ibrahim (AS)’s obedience and sacrifice—his willingness to submit to Almighty Allah’s command without hesitation. It is a lesson in faith, trust, and long-term vision, and one that speaks powerfully to our current journey as a people’, Shoyinka added.
‘Dear compatriots, as we celebrate with joy, food, and festivity, let us also reflect: true sacrifice isn’t just in slaughtering rams—it lies in our readiness to forego short-term pleasures for long-term good’.
‘Let us not allow the momentary satisfaction of the belly during election periods to blind us to the greater and lasting dividends of democracy. Let us not trade the future of our children and our land for bags of rice or empty promises’.
Penpushing further reports that in a related development, Shoyinka who is a politician used the opportunity to encourage Nigerians to always chose wisely when voting, and support leadership that prioritizes the welfare of all,
‘Just as Prophet Ibrahim chose obedience over convenience, we too must choose wisely—supporting leadership that prioritizes the welfare of all, the development of Egbaland, and a future filled with opportunity and dignity’, he stated.
