CIVIL SERVANT PARENTS OF BABY WITH HOLE IN HEART SEEK HELP TO RAISE N3. 5MILLION IN OGUN

The medical report from the Paediatric Cardiology Echocardiogram signed by Dr M.K Yusuf, a Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist, at the Federal Medical Center, Abeokuta, in its recommendation, emphasized need for “surgery and clinic follow up” for the baby.

The report further stated that, “a large membranous VSD (11mm in size), a single arterial trunk (17mm) committed to both ventricles, with the MPA (10mm) arising from the arterial trunk, good biventricular function, no pericardial effusion, vegetarian or intra-cardiac masses, 2D dimension: MPA – 10mm RPA – 6mm, LPA – 5mm ascending aorta: and valve annular dimensions: MV: 13mm, TV: 15mm”

 Penpushing further reports that, the baby’s mother, Atinuke Oyewole in an interview, said that authorities of the Federal Medical Centre ( FMC) Abeokuta, asked them to take her to India for surgery  which is to cost  N10million, but they decided to go for re-evaluation of the diagnosis at Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State.

The worried mother explained that she started noticing her daughter’s plight when she observed that she was not growing as expected of a child, adding that at Babcock University Teaching Hospital, the re-evaluation test also confirmed that the little girl has hole in her heart, but assured that, the surgical operation can be handled successfully by them at the cost of N3. 5million.

“I started noticing that she was not growing as expected of a child. We have visited the Federal Medical Centre, and they diagnosed her of hole in the heart, but they said we should take her to India for the surgery at sum of N10million, but later on, we decided to take her to Babcock University Teaching Hospital to re-evaluate and they said they can handle it there at Babcock, and the cost of the surgery will be N3.5million”

Penpushing also reports that, the Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, in its estimated bill dated 16th January, 2020, reads in part, “Estimated Bill for VSD Closure with Conduit, Patient Name: Oyewole Grace’.

“Below is the cost of the procedures: Conduit: ₦1,000,000, Surgery: ₦2,500,000 (covers 4 days admission in ICU and 3 days admission in step down), Amount in Words: Three Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira Only’.

“This bill covers only the stated procedures. There will be an additional charge if the patient stays above the stipulated days in ICU/step down and other incidental examination that is not part of the stated bill. Note: There will be a 5% administrative charge for every refund. The mother, while shedding tears during the interview, passionately begged “I need assistance, I need Nigerians to assist me with the N3.5 million so that my baby will be fine”
