Deputy Inspector General of Police, Abdulmajid Ali set to retire, marks 60th birthday

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Abdulmajid Ali is set to retire from the Nigeria Police Force, after meritorious service for the force country, and would also be marking his 60th birthday.

Penpushing reports that, the twin ceremony has been scheduled to hold August 28 at the Deputy Inspector General of Police quarters located in Gana Street, Maitama, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The retirement and birthday party has been designed to host police chieftains in the country, as well as who is who in the society and the media among others, while a documentary on him titled, ’Zimbo: The gentleman officer’, will be unveiled at the ceremony

Penpushing further reports that, the profile of the police boss has it that he was born on the 28th August, 1960 in Mina, Niger State,and had his primary education at Kankare Primary School, Zungeru and Central Primary School Kontagora Niger State.

The profile added that,on completion of his Primary Education, he proceeded to the Government Secondary School, Kontagora, Niger State where he obtained West African School Certificate in 1978. Abdulmajid and later proceed to the School of Basic Studies, Zaria, Kaduna Sate from where he gained admission to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he bagged BSc. Political Science in 1984 (Bias in international studies).

Penpushing also reports that, at the end of his University Education, he was mobilised and served the one year mandatory NYSC at Owa Oyibu Secondary School, Agbor, old Bendel State, now Delta State,and for his love for national growth and security, Ali enrolled into the Nigeria Police Force as Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in 1986.

The officer on completion of his Cadet training, he was posted to the then Old Anambra State in 1987,then the journey of his careers a professional police officer began for good. The versatile security guru, held many posts in the Nigeria Police and particularly in Anambra State as a fresh commissioned officer, including: O/C Anti-Robbery Squad, Nnewi, and DTO. C.P.S. and SCID Enugu

Penpushing reports that, in 1989 following the Federal Government’s Policy on “Go back to your state”, he returned to Niger State where he held the following posts: Patrol Officer ‘A’ Division Kontagora, DTO ‘A’ Division Kontagora, DPO ‘B’ Division Kontagora, DPO ‘A’ Division Kontagora and DPO Tundun Wada Division, Minna

The profile stated that,when the government’s policy was phased out, the erudite officer was posted to the Police College, Kaduna 1992-1997 as a directing staff and later posted to Rivers State where he held some positions such as the DPO Mini Okoro Division, DPO Mile 1, Diobu, DPO Olu Obasanjo and Acting Area Commander of Port Harcourt, Metro as a result of his commitment to duties.

Penpushing further reports that, in 2002, he was promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police and transferred to Police Air-Wing Lagos as AC Administration and he was later posted to Katsina State as the Area Commander, Daura2003.

The officer was made the AC CIID, Jigawa State in 2006 and returned to Katsina State as the Area Commander, Daura, 2006 for the second time; a position he held when he led a team of policemen to repel and crushed the Nigerien rebels who do terrorise the Niger Republic and part of Nigeria border.

This landmark operation fetched him the Presidential Award of Excellence by the Nigerien President in 2008,and in  2009, he was promoted to the rank of the Deputy Commissioner of Police and transferred to Kano State as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of Zonal CIID.

Penpushing also reports that, in the course of his service to his father land, Ali was again posted to Katsina State as the DCP Administration and later Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of X-Squad FORCID Abuja; he also served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police 2i/c Bauchi State.

The committed young officer served in Ogun State as DCP Administration, a post he held until he was promoted to the rank of Commissioner of police and posted to Abuja as the CP in-charge of Bomb Disposal Unit of the Nigeria Police Force, Force Headquarters, Abuja, from where he was posted to Imo State as the Commissioner of Police and recorded zero bank robbery incident throughout his tenure and busted the high kidnappers cases in the state.

Penpushing reports that, in February, 2015, he was redeployed as CP In-charge of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery, Abuja [FED SARS] a position he held until July 2015 when he moved to head Ogun State Police Command as the CP Command.

The officer introduced modern policing to the grassroots in Ogun State, community policing to stop incessant ritual killing the state,and he was promoted to the rank of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in July 2016, and immediately posted to be the AIG in charge of Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos.

Penpushing also reports that, during his tenure of duty in zone 2, he organised joint task force that include other security agencies that struck and clear Arepo a suburb of Lagos, of kidnappers, miscreants, pipeline vandals and bunkers, and after  3 months of the posting, he was then moved to be the AIG in charge of the Special Protection Unit(SPU), Force Headquarters, Abuja, in November, 2016.

The gallant police boss,who has been found competent in all ramifications of policing and public safety, is the pioneer Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Eastern Port Command, Onne, Rivers State; the command which was recently upgraded to the Zonal Command status by the Inspector-General of Police to tackle piracy, illegal bunkering, kidnapping, armed robbery and other water-related crimes with a view to creating enabling and peaceful business environment on the waterways and within catchment areas of the ports generally.

Penpushing reports that, the proactive and seasoned Deputy Inspector-general of Police, attended many professional courses, with certificates, both within and outside Nigeria

These include: Intermediate Command Course (ICC) PSC Jos – 1999,Senior Command Course (SCC) PSC, Jos – 2004 ,Anti-Terrorist Course Police Academy, Cairo, Egypt- 1994,Bomb Detonating Course, Beijing, China- 2013, Explosive Handling Course, Ghouzon, China- 2013 and many management courses.

Penpushing further reports that Ali, who is a disciplinarian, very honest, humble, focused and reliable Police Officer, has been involved in many Ad-Hoc Assignments including: Commander, United Nations Peace-Keeping to Yugoslavia, Chairman, Saidu Namaska Orphanage Home, Kontagora, Niger State,Patron. M.J. Foundation etc.

The gallant police chieftain in recognition of his professionalism and good service delivery, and contribution to upliftment of force received many awards locally and internationally

The awards are: Presidential Police award on Courage and Performance by the Nigerian President and Commander-in-Chief FRN,2013                                                                                                ,Presidential Award of Excellence by Nigerien Republic President, 2008, United Nation Peace Keeping award 1995, Best Performing Commissioner of Police, 2015,  Best Commissioner of Police by Crime Reporters’ Association of Nigeria, 12/11/2015, Outstanding Commissioner of Police in Ogun State since creation by Gateway News Update, 2015,  award of Excellence by Ogun State College of Health Technology,2017. Award of Excellence by the National Youth Council of Nigeria, 2016.
