Deposed traditional ruler shot dead in Anambra state
A deposed traditional ruler of Mkpunando community in Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area, Anambra State, Nigeria’s South-East, Alexander Edozieuno has been shot dead.
Penpushing reports that, the slain royal father was deposed in December, alongside other traditional rulers, for accompanying Anambra business mogul, Arthur Eze, on a visit to the Presidential villa, Abuja, without the state government’s permission.
The Commissioner of Information in the state, Don Adinuba said the deceased who recently joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) a few weeks ago, was killed on Friday alongside his driver.
“He was killed on Friday, September 10 on Ezu Bridge, Otuocha, in Anambra East Local Government Area, alongside his driver, identified as Chukwuemeka. It is disheartening that Edozieuno should die gruesomely when crime has been reduced to its lowest level since the creation of Anambra in August 1991’,the Commissioner said.
Penpushing further reports that, the commissioner added that the state government was shocked about the incident and appealed for calm from the public, adding that the Governor, Willie Obiano has directed the Commissioner of Police in the state, Tony Olofu, to ensure that the killers were brought to justice.
The Command Public Relations Officer Police ASP Tochuchwu Ikenga, when contacted said no arrest has been made, however, assured that the police were serious about the safety of all residents in the state.
