Joint Action Committee hails academic staff union of universities on signing of agreement with Nigerian government, calls for expedite action on pending renegotiation

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) have congratulated the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on the signing of an agreement with the Nigerian Government.
Penpushing reports that in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, the committee described the agreement as a significant milestone aimed at improving the working conditions of university workers.
The Joint Action Committee(JAC), however, called on the Nigerian Government to expedite action on the ongoing renegotiation process with Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), warning that delays could threaten industrial harmony within the university system.
Penpushing also reports that the committee pointed out that, it remains committed to promoting industrial peace and sustainable development in Nigerian universities but stressed that prolonged negotiations after the agreement reached with Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) could create tension in the sector.
The statement emphasized that delays in concluding talks with Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), could undermine the industrial peace currently being maintained despite what it described as challenging working conditions faced by non-academic staff.
Penpushing reports that the committee equally advised the Nigerian Government to avoid delay tactics, stressing that a timely conclusion of the renegotiation process would help prevent a breakdown of industrial harmony in the university system.
The statement was jointly signed by the General Secretary of Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) Prince Peters Adeyemi, President Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Chairman of Joint Action Committee (JAC) Mohammed Ibrahim.
