Crimes commission detains former Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed over alleged N9billion fraud
The former Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has been detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) , over alleged N9billion diverted from the coffers of Kwara State Government during his tenure
Penpushing reports that, Ahmed arrived the agency headquarters at Jabi, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) at about 10a.m. on Monday in response to an invitation from the commission
The former Governor, as at the time of filing this report was still being grilled by a crack team of the commission, just as a source disclosed that for hours he has been in the interrogation room, writing statements.
Penpushing further reports that, Ahmed who ruled the state between 2011 and 2019 is a political godson of a former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, who is also a former Governor of Kwara State, and has been under the searchlight of the crime commission for some time.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in January arraigned the Commissioner for Finance under Ahmed’s administration on charges of N411million money laundering.
Penpushing also reports that, the anti-graft agency alleged the ex-commissioner, Ademola Banu, to have committed the crime in 2018 by conspiring with others to launder the said sum belonging to the Kwara State Government.
The Head, Media and Publicity of the commission, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed that the former Governor “responded to the commission’s invitation but declined further comment, while the embattled former Governor’s spokesperson, Femi Akorede was yet to respond to the development as at the time of going to press.
