Crimes commission chairman, magu suspended

The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu has been suspended on Tuesday from office amidst allegations of gross misconduct, and this was also confirmed by top officials at the presidency.

Penpushing reports that, the suspension of Magu, was traced to recent allegation of corruption, insubordination and abuse of office by Attorney-General Abubakar Malam  which led to his arrest on Monday morning by a police team outside his office in Abuja.

The embattled Magu was immediately driven to the Presidential Villa where he appeared before a panel investigating the allegations against him and after his appearance before the panel, he was taken into custody by the police, where he was held overnight by detectives

Penpushing further reports that, Magu vehemently denied wrongdoing, with his aides arguing that he has run the office diligently and away from sharp practices, while as at the time of filing this report, efforts to reach Presidential spokespersons, Garba Shehu and Femi Adesina, on the suspension have not been successful.

The officials who spoke under anonymity ,however, said the next most-senior official of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) next to Magu was asked to take over as at the time of the suspension order.

Penpushing also reports that charge Magu has been leading the anti-graft agency in acting capacity since 2016, overseeing scores of high-profile corruption cases that have seen many politicians and businessmen convicted and sentenced to prison.
