Court reinstates Shaibu as Edo state deputy governor

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has reinstated the impeached Deputy Governor of Edo State Philip Shaibu, describing his (Shaibu) removal from office by the House of Assembly as illegal.

Penpushing reports that the judge, Justice James Omotosho, gave the order on Wednesday and equally ordered Shaibu’s salaries and allowances to be paid to him from April when he was removed from office, and that the Inspector General of Police to restore his security details.

The reinstatement of Shaibu came three months after the Edo House of Assembly impeached him, however, the lawmakers have appealed the judgement and filed for a stay of its execution pending the determination of the appeal.

Penpushing further reports that it is recalled that Shaibu had vowed to challenge his impeachment, saying he was confident that the legal system would vindicate him, as he described his removal from office as a dangerous descent into dictatorship and a threat to democracy, adding that it was hatched because of his governorship ambition.
