Corpse of newborn baby found at dumpsite in Bayelsa state
The corpse of a newborn baby boy suspected to have been abandoned by the mother, was on Saturday found at the dump site in front of a primary school in Okaka community, Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa.
Penpushing reports that, witness said the innocent little baby wrapped in Ankara clothing, crying helplessly, adding that the first resident that saw the baby raised alarm which attracted the community
The innocent baby was reported to have been beaten by rain over night, resulting in a cold which led to the death, as there was no help coming for the baby during the downpour, but official of the state government later visited the scene.
Penpushing further reports that Director of Bayelsa Waste Management,(BESA), Ebitto Alazigha, led the monitoring team to the site, and advised residents to always monitor their neighbours on what they took to dump sites, adding that the authority would put measures in place to check such menace in future.
The Chairperson of Gender Response Team (GRT), Dise Ogbise, while reacting blamed the ugly development on poverty and promiscuity amongst young girls, and urged young ladies with difficulties in taking care of their babies to contact her office rather than destroy innocent lives.
Penpushing also reports that, Ogbise who is the founder of Do-Foundation described the act as illegal, declaring that any perpetrators caught, would be arrested for murder, prosecuted and jailed.
The Bayelsa State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident, adding that investigation has commenced and that the command has already contacted the sanitation authority to evacuate the corpse of the baby as at the time of filing this report.
