Coronavirus: Ogun State Press Centre shut

The Nigeria Union of Journalists,(NUJ), Ogun State Council has ordered closure of its press centre located in Oke-Ilewo area of Abeokuta in view of the ravaging coronavirus.

Penpushing reports that ,the Council in a statement signed by Secretary Caretaker Committee, Wale Oluokun said the directive has it that all journalists should henceforth start working from their various homes, while all shop owners within the premises should also stop further business activities.

“Due to the global spread of the Corona virus and the recent ban of all high-density gatherings in Ogun State and the NUJ national Headquarters directive to all the State councils to suspend all activities that could bring people together, the Caretaker Committee of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Ogun state having consulted widely and reviewed the activities at the Secretariat wishes to inform the general public that the centre housing both the Union and private businesses be closed down”

The statement added that the closure which it to be in effect from Thursday was in compliance with government and National secretariat of the union directives,  and the need for precautionary measures to safeguard the health of our members and the general public.

“Operators of businesses within the premises are hereby through this notice reminded of the need to comply with the lockdown order in the interest of public health”, Oluokun wrote.

Penpushing further reports that, the statement also directed that all the twelve  Chapels leadership are advised to close their chapel offices for public transactions as part of the measures to safeguard the health of their members.

“We also urged Journalists in Ogun state to adhere strictly with preventive measures and follow experts advice on COVID 19 prevention”, the statement emphasised
