Coronavirus: Ogun state labour congress inaugurates situation room committee
The Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC) Ogun State Council has inaugurated Labour-Civil Society Situations Room, as response to the coronavirus pandemic which was in line with the directives of the national leadership of the organized labour.
Penpushing reports that, Chairman of the Congress, Comrade Emmanuel Bankole supervised the low-keyed ceremony held at the Conference Hall of the Labour Secretariat, Leme, Abeokuta , the state capital.
The Congress boss highlighted some of the objectives of the situation room while welcoming members of the Committee and what is expected from them, and also charged the committee to rise up to the clarion call and embrace the appointment as call to service.
Penpushing further reports that, he tasked them on need to, sensitise workers on the prevalence, prevention and containment measures against coronavirus and maintain feedback mechanism, stressing that the committee should also support workers who are in the frontline of the pandemic with information and occupational skills.
The Chairman emphasised that the committee are saddled with responsibility of engaging the government on how best to gradually and systematically open up the economy for business and production bearing in mind the major means of livelihood of Nigerian workers should also be protected by the committee.
Penpushing also reports that, in her own remarks, Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists ,Ogun State Council, Mrs Omolola Adeyinka expressed gratitude to the national body of the Congress and the State Council for the formation of the Labour-Civil Society Situation Room.
The leader of journalists in the state promised that the committee will intensify efforts in sensitising the masses who still believe coronavirus is not real by reaching out to them especially at the grassroots pledging their readiness to inform and educate the people on the dreaded disease,
Penpushing reports that, Adeyinka called on religious leaders, market women, artisans among others to strictly adhere to all precautions, and equally on behalf of the committee appreciated the labour leaders in the state
Meanwhile, the Committee members are; the Chairman National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Comrade Olufunmilayo Solarin, Chairman Nigeria Medical Association(NMA) Dr. Lawal Ismail Akinlade, Chairman, Medical and Health Workers Union, Comrade Akeem Balogun, Secretary Medical and Health Workers Union Comrade Steve Modupe, Chief Administrator of Fight for your Right Advocate Dr. Ayedun Isaiah Segun, and Comrade Yinka Folarin among others.
