Coronavirus: Makinde’s wife gives relief package to market women

The wife of the Oyo State Governor, Engr. (Mrs) Tamunominini Makinde has donated relief package to heads of market women (Iyaloja’s) as part of her effort to cushion the effect of coronavirus pandemic in the state, urging them to follow precautions in order to stop the spread of the virus.

Penpushing reports that the relief materials were  distributed on Thursday at the Governor’s Wife Office, Agodi, Ibadan, while the donor explained that she decided to showed kindness to the market women leaders (Iyaloja’s), adding  that the gestures will be extend to other market women as time goes on.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Alhaja Faosat Sanni who spoke on behalf of the donor said, “the first lady action was informed by the kind of good person she was, she would have done more than these, but because of the social distance protocol as a result of the covid-19 pandemic, that was why she decided to be doing it in batches’.

Penpushing further reports that,Sanni however called on the people of the state to join hands with the Oyo State government in fighting the virus which she described as a common enemy, adding that fighting coronavirus required collective effort of everyone.

The Iyaloja of Ibadan land, Chief (Mrs) Iswat Ameringun while responding to the gestures thanked the first lady, saying that they were happy when they were called for the pallitives in view of the suffering of the market women in the state in general.

Penpushing also reports that,she however, sought  for more inclusion of market women in the palliatives, saying that the gestures must go around so that all the market women in the state can also benefited.

The Governor’s wife in a statement by her Media Officer,Sunday Ogundare said  in a related development, distributed foodstuffs and other items to Muslim Women as part of palliatives and felicitation as the  ramadan period lasted.

Penpushing reports that, the statement said,the Governor’s wife who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Faosat Sanni, visited two places which are NASFAT Oyo Zone at Samonda and Federation of Muslim Women’s Association in Nigeria Oyo Chapter (FOMWAN) at Akobo Ibadan.

The statement said, Makinde said the essence of the palliatives is to support the State Government’s efforts by extending her hand of fellowship to Women in the State to ease the pain and untold hardships this present pandemic called coronavirus which is ravaging the whole world has brought their way and in the spirit of ramadan as well.

Penpushing further reports that,while presenting the palliatives, she encouraged muslim women to use the ramadan period to pray for the state, adding that, researchers and privileged Nigerians should come up with solutions that will elimimate and put an end to the virus.

The Governor’s wife, however, implored the people to adhere strictly to the laid down health guidelines and government directive throughout the pandemic, such as social distancing, regular hand washing, use of face mask among others

Penpushing also reports that,the beneficiaries lauded the Governor’s wife and her husband, Governor Seyi Makinde for the gestures that bring succor to the people of the State especially women at a time like this.

Meanwhile, some of the palliatives distributed to the beneficiaries are rice, beans, noodles, garri, egg, bread, vegetable oil and cash gift among others.
