Coronavirus: Group calls on government for massive media campaign

The New Generation Leadership, NGL, has advised the Nigerian Government to embark on massive media campaign to enlighten and educate the public on the dreaded coronavirus pandemic to be able to curtail its spread, as infected people continue to increase in the country daily.

Penpushing reports that, a frontline member of the youth group Dayo Da-Silva made the call while on behalf of the body donating food items, toiletries, sanitisers and other needs to the Gideons Orphanage Home, in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital.

The team leader who said the  donation was a token of support to the special Children by the group, at a time when the coronavirus pandemic was hitting hard on the country, enjoined well spirited Nigerians to remember the less-privileged in the society.

“A lot still needs to be done in terms of public awareness ,enlightenment and education to ensure Covid -19 does not continue to spread.The people must know what to do and how to go about it, and this can only be achieved through massive media campaign and publicity”, he said

Penpushing further reports that,  he urged State and Local Government authorities to follow the Federal Government’s step of creating palliative measures by devising a social support system where food items and financial assistance are able to reach residents of the two States and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, under lockdown, without compromising the social distance precaution.

‘Meaningful palliative measures, which will include food bank support and financial assistance should be considered for residents in Abuja, Lagos and Ogun States which are temporarily lock down to contain the dreaded Covid-19, presently ravaging the world”.

Penpushing also reports that, Da-Silva noted that artisans, traders and others who earn daily income would find it hard to survive without working, now that there is a lockdown for fourteen days, stressing, “State and local Governments must come to the aid of the people at this time, by providing support or else the resultant effects of the 14 days, sit at home will be negative’, assuring  that “the New Generation Leadership, NGL ,will continue to play its role in enhancing a better Nigeria but all hands must be on deck”.

The team spokesman thanked all members of the group for their magnanimity, noting that a token of N5,000 each has been earmarked for forty people who would be selected randomly on the group’s Facebook page.

Penpushing reports that, the New Generation Leadership( NGL) warned Nigerians to take seriously the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic, thus the need to adhere strictly with all the precautions given by concerned agencies.

“It is the work of everybody to curtail the spread of the disease by obeying the precautions of washing hands with soap and water, maintaining social distance and avoiding contact with sick people, among others”, he emphasied.
