Coronavirus claims four lives on Christmas day in Nigeria, 712 new cases recorded

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed that four persons died of coronavirus complications and 712 new cases recorded on Christmas day in the country, while total fatality toll is now 1,246.

Penpushing reports that, the health authorities said with the latest figure, the total infections in the country has increased to over 82,747, while record also has it that Nigeria is currently battling its worst phase of coronavirus with the recent surge in new infections officially declared the second wave last Thursday by the federal government.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control(NCDC), however, made a “passionate appeal” to all Nigerians to take the coronavirus prevention advisories very seriously now more than ever, especially during Yuletide festivities, as record showed that of the 200million people,the country has tested  over 900,000.

Penpushing further reports that, due to a rise in the second wave the cases in the country have risen from 3,000 few weeks ago to over 11,000, while the healt officials were convinced that the lowering of guard on safety and the weak enforcement of protocols by officials, especially in the country’s major airports in Abuja and Lagos, could be responsible for the recent spread.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control)NCDC)  pointed out that the situation could get worse if citizens keep violating safety protocols, while records equqlly showed that of the over 82,000 cases so far in Nigeria, 70,239 patients have been discharged from hospitals after treatment.

Penpushing also reports that, Nigerian Government has, however, ordered the reopening of all isolation and treatment centres in the country, following the country sliding into the second wave of coronavirus pandemic.
