Coronavirus: Avoid unnecessary panic, federal government urges Oyo state residents

The Nigerian Government has called on the residents of Oyo State to avoid panic caused by uncoordinated and unconfirmed information on the coronavirus(COVID-19) global pandemic.

Penpushing reports that the State Director, Federal Ministry of Information, Ibadan Centre Mrs Omolara Esan, made this known in a statement which was made available to journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The statement, noted that panic could result to untimely death through abuse and mis-use of unauthorised drugs, which can cause high blood pressure and domestic accidents under the present circumstance.

The Director  maintained that coronavirus  was a battle to be won by everybody, calling on the people of the state not to see the virus as death sentence for its victims considering the number of victims who have recovered so far in the country.

Penpushing further reports that Esan however urged residents of the state to adhere strictly to government’s instructions and guidelines to avoid getting infected, and listed some of the guidelines as frequent hand washing with soap, use of hand sanitizer, social distancing and use of face masks.

‘Recalled that human transmission of the virus occurred in Wuhan, China in December, 2019 and till date the mortality rate has been kept at 3 percent globally with Nigeria having 0.02 percent. It is noticeable that with strict compliance to the rules and regulations set out by the Federal Government to curtail the spread of this virus, lives of the public are generally safe,” she said.
