Sergeant kills sergeant in Portharcourt, Rivers state

A female police sergeant identified as Lovender Elekwachi has been shot dead by her sergeant colleague, while on traffic duties at the Eneka roundabout in Portharcourt, Rivers State Capital, South-South Nigeria

Penpushing reports that, the cause of the shooting was still unknown as at the time of filing this report, but police authorities confirmed that the alleged killer, who is identified as Bitrus Osaiah, a sergeant attached to Rivers State Task Force on Decongestion has been arrested

The Rivers State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, who confirmed the incident in a statement said, Osaiah and two other members of the task force were arrested but did not give details of what led to the shooting.

Penpushing also reports that, the police spokesman said, the corpse of the victim had being deposited in the morgue, adding, “the Hilux vehicle belonging to the Task Force has been impounded and the corpse of the woman Sergeant deposited in the mortuary,”.

“The Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan, has ordered investigation into the matter with a view to unraveling the circumstances that led to her death and has appealed for calm, pending the outcome of the investigation, promising that the interest of justice must be served in the circumstance.”
