Community Education Advancement of Peace Development Initiative offsets examination fees of 150 students
A Non-Governmental Organisation Community Education Advancement of Peace and Development Initiative (CEAPDI) has in last six years offset payment of the West African Senior School Certificate students.
Penpushing reports that the management of the non-profit making, non-partisan and non-religious organization made the disclosure in a statement explaining that within the period over 150 students have benefited from the scheme to date.
The organization said it embarked on the scheme realizing the hazardous nature of various forms of child labour like hawking, house-helps, quarry work among others that some students have to passed through in raising funds to pay for their own livelihood and the payment of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Penpushing further reports that Chairman of Board of Trustees Dr. Temitope Olaifa and Adesina Adefolahan Executive Director of the organisation in a statement noted that this was very crucial in advancing them to the next level of Tertiary Education.
‘CEAPDI has since year 2020 commenced the payment of the West African Senior School Certificate with over One Hundred and Fifty Students as beneficiaries from the scheme to date’, the statement said.
Penpushing also reports that the body gave identities of the beneficiary schools as include St. Peter’s College, (Senior) Olomore, Abeokuta, Macjob Grammar School (Senior) Abeokua, Baptist Girls College (Senior) Abeokuta, Saje High School, (Senior) Abeokuta, Alaye High School, (Senior) Ayetoro, Adokun High School, Joga-Orile and Nawair –Ud –Deen Grammar School, Obantoko, Odeda
The statement added that it is interesting to note that the award in year 2025 goes beyond beneficiaries in senior secondary schools as it was extended to four earlier beneficiaries of the program who are now in higher institutions of learning.
‘The benefiting Higher Institutions are: Tai Solarin College of Education (TASUED) Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode – (one beneficiary), University of Lagos – (one beneficiary), Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, – (one beneficiary) and Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye – (one beneficiary)’
Penpushing reports that the management of the organisation acknowledged the support received from Tunji Adewunmi and friends for the crowd funding as well as Mr. Nojeem Magbade and Mrs Wunmi Magbade towards the payment of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) of brilliant but indigent students in Ogun State.
The statement pointed out that students have been thrown into various forms of worst labour before they could pay their examination fee with each of the beneficiary receiving the sum of N29,500.00.
‘We are pleased to report that the award covers payment for fifty-one beneficiaries (51) for the examination while four students in higher institutions of learning who were previous beneficiaries also received sum of Thirty Thousand Naira (N30,000.00) only as bursaries to support their education as a way of follow-up on them and sustainability’, the statement reads.
‘The Board of Trustees (BoT), Management and staff of CEAPDI sincerely appreciate the steadfastness of all the donors and the support on the project since 2020 when the scheme commenced. We pray that almighty God will continue to use them and other intending donors in years to come as an instrument that brightens other peoples’ path and ways’.
Penpushing further reports that the statement said Community Education Advancement of Peace and Development Initiative (CEAPDI) is committed to the education and sensitization of Nigerians on positive values and the attainment of equality.
The organisation is registered in 2015 with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), pointing out that the worst forms of child labor, as defined by the International Labor Organization (ILO), include: slavery and practices similar to slavery like – forced labor, debt bondage, or trafficking of children, as well as children forced into servitude or exploitation
Penpushing also reports that the body added that others are prostitution and pornography- – children forced into commercial sex or production of pornographic materials, children exploited for sexual purposes
The statement added it equally include illicit activities – children involved in drug trafficking, production, or trade- children engaged in other illicit activities, such as armed conflict or organized crime
Penpushing reports that others are hazardous work- children working in hazardous conditions, such as: – mining, quarrying, or construction, working with hazardous chemicals or machinery, exposure to extreme temperatures, heights, or confined spaces, long working hours or heavy physical labour
The Community Education Advancement of Peace and Development Initiative (CEAPDI) said these forms of child labour can have severe physical, emotional, and psychological consequences for children.
