BUHARI TO LAUNCH NEW DEFENCE POLICY FOR NIGERIA

The Chairman of the Board of the Society Prof. Suleiman Bogoro, who was represented by a member of the Board Prof. Isaac Olawale Albert of the University of Ibadan made this known while talking about one of the fourteen distinguished personalities conferred with the 2019 Fellowship of the Society.

Penpushing further reports that, Bogoro who is also the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Fund introduced Major General A.G Adewuyi as the Vice Chairman of the Presidential Committee set up by the federal government to work on the Policy.

The Society which is made up of Peace Scholars and Practitioners in Nigeria had conferred the 2019 Fellowship on fourteen distinguished personalities including veteran Nigerian Television Authority Journalist Ademolu Okuneye, the Pro Chancellor of Lead City University Prof. Jide Owoeye, the Vice Chancellor of Redeemer’s University Prof. Anthony Akinlo and Olalekan Oketokun of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic.

Penpushing also reports that,other distinguished personalities presented with the Fellowship were the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), University of Ibadan Prof. Adebola Ekanola, Prof. Alero Akeredolu of Ajaiyi Crowther University, ECOWAS Chieftain Dr Ajibewa Aderemi, and Executive Director Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) Dr Shedrack Lucky Agediga.

The Chairman of the board of the Society had stressed that the Committee set up by the Presidency to work on the Policy was made up of experts in various areas of security, diplomacy and Peace initiatives among others.

Penpushing reports that, the Committee which was headed by retired Air Vice Marshall MN Umar has submitted its Report to the Presidency.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s existing defence Policy aims at maintaining peace with her neighbours, ensure security and defend her territorial integrity with the principles of Afrocentrism.
