Buhari pays condolence visit to Shonekan’s family

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday paid a condolence visit to the family of  late head of the defunct Interim National Government (ING) of Nigeria, Chief Ernest Shonekan in Ikoyi, Lagos State

Penpushing reports that, Buhari arrived home of the deceased at 4.40pm accompanied by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Prince Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Mai Mala Buni of Yobe and Chairman, All Progressives Congress(APC) Caretaker and Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) among others

The former Head of Interim National Government for three months (August 26, 1993, to November 17, 1993. died on Tuesday at the age of 85 in Lagos, while it is recalled that he succeeded General Ibrahim Babangida(rtd)

Penpushing further reports that, Babangida who is described as running a ‘maradonic’ administration, in August 1993 constituted Interim National Government(ING) in the aftermath of the annulment of the June 12, 1993,Presidential election.

The deceased, it is recalled was, however, overthrown in a palace coup led by the late military dictator General Sani Abacha, who was the Defence Secretary in the Shonekan-led Interim National Government(ING).

Penpushing also reports that, prior to his brief political career; the late Shonekan was the Chairman and Chief Executive of the United African Company (UAC) of Nigeria.
