Brick-making workers buried as excavation pit collapses in Kano state

An excavation pit has collapsed, in Ridawa village in Ghari Local Government Area of Kano State burying an unspecified number of brick workers, while they were digging earth for brick-making.

Penpushing reports that eyewitness accounts disclosed that the workers were inside the pit when it suddenly caved in, trapping many undergrounds, and as at the time of filing this report fears have grown that several of the trapped workers may have died.

The sources added that others sustained varying degrees of injuries, however, as at the time of this report rescue efforts were said to have commenced immediately, with locals and emergency responders battling to reach victims buried beneath the rubble.

Penpushing further reports that some victims as at the time of filing this report were yet to be rescued, raising concerns about their chances of survival, while the member representing Ghari/Tsanyawa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Sani Bala, confirmed the incident.

The federal lawmaker stated that about 10 persons were believed to be trapped, and called for urgent government intervention to rescue those affected and prevent further loss of lives.

Penpushing also reports that the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, however, said the agency had yet to receive an official report on the incident as at the time of this report.

“We have not received any report on the incident. The Ghari office has also not been informed. As soon as we get details, we will provide updates,” Abdullahi said.
