Boko Haram attacks hometown of Acting Inspector General of Police
Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have stormed Giedam the hometown of the Acting Inspector-General of the Police, Baba Alkali, located in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State, the town which serves as the local government headquarters.
Penpushing reports that, as at the time of filing this report on Friday evening sources said there was sounds of heavy gunfire, while it was also gathered that a Nigerian Air Force jet has been deployed to the town to dislodge the bandits.
The details of the invasion and attack by the terrorists as at the time of this report are still sketchy, as residents are indoors for their safety, while a frightened resident was quoted saying in low voice, “I cannot talk now, I am sure you are hearing the sound of gunshots. Let’s talk when the situation is calm,”.
Penpushing also reports that, the Yobe State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Dungus Abdulkarim, in response to further enquiry on the worrisome development said he was making frantic efforts to get to the officers on ground
The terrorists, it is recalled on February 9 attacked Giedam and abducted customs officers, and this was barely 24 hours after the new Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Attahiru, visited troops after his appointment
