Bayelsa state government fixes January 30 for burial of late deputy governor

The Bayelsa State Government has fixed January 30, 2026, for the burial of the late Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who died on December 11, 2025, at the age of 60.

Penpushing reports that Governor Douye Diri made the announcement known on Wednesday during the 179th State Executive Council (SEC) meeting at Government House, Yenagoa, the state capital.

The Governor disclosed that a four-day funeral programme was approved after consultations by a burial committee chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Nimibofa Ayawei, adding that the programme begins January 27, 2026 with sporting activities.

Penpushing further report that he explained that this will be followed by a day of tributes on January 28, 2026 adding that valedictory sessions would hold on January 29, 2026 at the State High Court and at the Executive Council Chambers.

The Governor pointed out that that the state government, family and church were in agreement on the burial arrangements for the late deputy governor, stressing that on January 30,2026  a requiem mass will hold at St Paul’s Catholic Church, Ofoni, before interment,”
