Bandits kill wives, children of Taraba traditional ruler
Bandits who attacked and kidnapped members of the family of the Mutum Biu District Head in Jalingo have killed the wives and five children of the traditional ruler, Sani Muhammed who is a retired judge in Taraba State
Penpushing reports that a senior Gasol Emirate official, Ibrahim Ya’u, Mutum in Biu the headquarters of Gasol Local Government area of state confirmed the incident, recalling that the gunmen attacked the residence of the monarch.
The Emirate official added that as at the time of filing this report the corpses of the traditional ruler’s family members were deposited at the palace of the district head at Mutumbiyu for Islamic burial on Saturday.
Penpushing further reports that sources said the assailants were after the monarch for cooperating with security agencies in the area as well as the state government sponsored vigilante group known as the Taraba Marshall who are tackling the outlaws in the area.
The community sources added that the bereaved traditional ruler is also known for asking residents of the area not to pay ransom to outlaws who kidnapped their loved ones, stating that that one person among those kidnapped alongside the family of the district head managed to escape.
Penpushing also reports that the Taraba State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Usman Abdullahi confirmed the killings, adding that sources disclosed that 7 out of the 8 family members of the Emir have been killed by their assailants.
