Bandits kidnap veteran photo journalist in Kaduna

A veteran photojournalist, Umar Usman, has been abducted by suspected bandits in Danhonu II community, Millennium City, in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna state.

Penpushing reports that Kaduna State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, confirmed the incident on Tuesday explaining that security operatives had commenced efforts to rescue the victim.

The police spokesperson stated that the command as at the time of filing this report trying its best to rescue the victim unhurt adding that the Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, had immediately deployed a team of operatives to track down the abductors and secure the journalist’s safe release.

Penpushing further reports that Hassan, however, appealed to residents of the area to assist security agencies with credible information that could aid the rescue operation affirming that Usman was abducted at about 9:00 p.m. on Monday.

The victim is a retired staff member of Africa Independent Television (AIT), Kaduna Station, and a former Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) staff member in Kaduna, who was reportedly taken from his residence during the attack.
