Atiku Abubakar secures Peoples Democratic Party ticket for Presidential race in 2023
Nigeria’s former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has secured ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as its flagbearer for the Presidential race in the forthcoming 2023 presidential poll.
Penpushing reports that, Abubakar at the Moshood Abiola Stadium Abuja, where the primary of the party was held on Saturday defeated 12 other candidates in a keenly contested primary,as he polled 371 votes of the over 763 ballots at the election, while , Governor Nyesom Wike of River State recorded 237 votes, and the former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, scored 70 votes to come a distant third while in same vein, the Governor Bala Muhammed of Bauchi state , came fourth with 20 votes.
The victory of Abubakar would be his second successive attempt, which also marked his fifth attempt at the presidency, while record has it that he has had other unsuccessful contests for the seat under both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Penpushing further reports that, with this victory, the former Vice President under the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, will again face whoever emerges from the forthcoming presidential primaries of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in next political dispensation.
The Governor of Sokoto State,Aminu Tambuwal, who also eyeing the ticket, earlier before commencement of of the poll had stepped down from the race asking his supporters to vote for Abubakar
