Association of Professional Counsellors of Nigeria appoints Rafiu Soyele as patron

The Association of Professional Counsellors of Nigeria (APROCON),Ogun State Chapter has honoured Provost of Federal College of Education(FCE), Dr Rafiu Adekola Soyele as grand patron of the body.

Penpushing reports that the honour was conferred on Soyele, when the professional body paid him a courtesy visit to him in his office, which was part of activities to mark the 2025 anniversary of the association

The association is a professional body of counsellors with a mission for the enhancement of quality of life in the society by promoting the well-being and competencies of Professional Counsellors in Nigeria.

Penpushing further reports that the chairperson of the Association Dr. Emily Adeniji who led the team appreciated the provost for his magnanimity and unwavering support towards counselling services and his passion for counseling in the college.

The association boss explained that it was in recognition of this that the association has deemed it fit to consider him to be honoured as a Patron of the Association for Professional Counsellors of Nigeria (APROCON)

Penpushing also reports that the Principal General of Egba Division of the Teaching Service Commission of Ogun State who is also a Fellow of the Association Dr. Ayodele Womiloju, earlier unveiled the purpose of the visit.

The Principal General explained that these include to show gratitude for approving Federal College of Education (FCE) Abeokuta school of general education as the association secretariat, to show appreciation for giving counseling and counselors a conducive environment to operate and practice and to officially and formally make him as Patron, which he had already obliged with the acceptance letter and to appreciate him for accepting to be the patron.

Penpushing reports that Soyele in response appreciated the honour done on him as a patron of the association stressing that he was glad and proud to be one of them and been a para- counselor due to his love for counseling

The patron noted the importance of counselling to right career choice citing his life example, just as he disclosed that the college now has a building complex with a Director to handle counselling services.

Penpushing further reports that Soleye laying emphasis that even during disciplinary committee sessions, cases are referred to the Counselling Unit with a view of seeing what could be done as a corrective and remedial measure to the erring students instead of outright dismissal which could further make them a pollutant to the larger society

The Provost emphasized the important roles of counseling services in this current situation of the country with its many challenges of cultism, drug abuse, money rituals, gangsterism and bad peer influence.

Penpushing also reports that Soyele enjoined the association to collaborate with the college by bringing forth her expertise and contribution towards the college 50th anniversary coming up in 2026.

Meanwhile, in attendance were members of the association drawn from different agencies and academic institutions within Ogun State, Deputy Provost Academics Dr. Joseph Bankole Filani, Deputy Provost (Administration) Dr. Temitayo Abosede Akinyele. Acting Director, Public Relations Officer of the college, Dean, School of Education- Dr. Christopher ‘Yemi Odule among others
