Association for Orphans, Vulnerable Children celebrate 20-years of existence

The association for Orphans and Vulnerable Children, Non-Governmental Organisations in Nigeria (AONN), Ogun State Chapter on Friday celebrated the 20 years anniversary, which attracted number of stakeholders across the state and environs.

Penpushing reports that the coordinator of the body Dammylola Shodiya in his speech at the well packaged ceremony pointed out that it has been a long haul, but worth celebrating, with a call on members  to never give room for failure, but  work effortlessly like there is no tomorrow and rest appropriately

‘Dear Esteemed Colleagues. Congratulations to us all as we celebrate the 20th Anniversary of this noble network that watches over the wellbeing of Civil Society Organizations supporting Vulnerable Children’, Shodiya stated.

‘It’s been a long haul but we are glad it is being celebrated, I am glad that you my colleagues and our Stakeholders are alive and here to celebrate together. We are extremely grateful to God’, the coordinator added.

Penpushing further reports that he explained that the anniversary signified the beginning of another period of enormous task for a successful conquest, adding that there are several opportunities abound, but identified some bottle necks

‘An anniversary signifies the beginning of another period of enormous task for a successful conquest. Indeed, many have conquered and many more have barely managed to survive the haul. There are several opportunities abound but access is always beclouded with bottle necks of personal and vested interests which has denied many Organizations from getting laudable grants as members of AONN. Despite these concerns, we are not throwing in the towel nor are we giving up’, he stated.

Penpushing also reports that Shodiya expressed appreciations to members, stakeholders and Ogun State Government in ensuring that vulnerable children have access to social protection towards ensuring their safe and healthier lifestyle

‘I sincerely appreciate the efforts of Ogun State Government, AONN Member Organizations and all other Stakeholders in ensuring that Vulnerable Children have access to Social Protection towards ensuring their Safe and Healthier Lifestyle’

Penpushing reports that the coordinator emphasized need for members in for promoting the ethics of the association, which includes: integrity, honesty, transparency, reliability, hard work, commitment and excellence among others.

As we celebrate, I am drawing our attention to the need for promoting the ethics of this great Association, which includes: Integrity, Honesty, Transparency, Reliability, Hard Work, Commitment and Above all Excellence among many others’, Shodiya said.

‘Never give room for failure, work effortlessly like there is no tomorrow and rest appropriately. Please let’s eschew the ugly presentations of gossip, malice, bitterness, envy and let’s see ourselves as progressive collaborators and not competitors’, he added

Penpushing further reports that he tasked the line ministries and development agencies, security outfits, media, philanthropists to team up to support vulnerable children in various domains and ensure that a  child laughs, protected and empowered to live a viable and sustainable life.

The coordinator assured that the organisations are readily available for sustained partnerships and collaborations, just as he pointed out that family is the Bedrock for such emanation, hence, the importance to approach  interventions in the  family centred and leaving no one behind.

‘The caregivers of our children should also be made to laugh and let us encourage burden bearers and power holders not to relent in their pursuits for promoting improved wellbeing for vulnerable children’, he stressed.

‘Let’s remember the security agencies as well and ensure our collaboration with them is void of conflict of interest and do all we can to eschew violence, promote effective and efficient workable collaboration. Let them feel our presence’.

‘Don’t forget to also press upon Violators of the rights of Vulnerable Children, the need to disabuse their minds from hurting Children either by Sensitization or by outright Rescue and Prosecution Efforts’, he told members.

‘I am using this medium to salute and appreciate our members who have lost their lives in the course of ensuring qualitative lifestyle of Vulnerable Children nationwide, you will forever be our falled heroes’, he added.

Penpushing also reports that Shodiya called on Ogun State Government of ensuring social protection and qualitative lifestyle of vulnerable children such as Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Ogun State Agency for the Control of AIDS, Ministry of Education Science and Technology,

The coordinator noted that development partners, Ogun, members of Non-Governmental Organisations and all other Stakeholders caring for vulnerable children should deliberate in ensuring unhindered access to qualitative care and services for children currently living with HIV and those affected by AIDS.
