Assault: Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti handcuffed as police commence investigation
The Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, who allegedly slapped a policeman while on duty has turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, following the order by the Inspector General of Police.
Penpushing reports that the Grammy award winner was accompanied by his lawyer and family representative, and was subsequently being placed under arrest, while he was equally handcuffed as at the time of filing this report.
The photo of the son of the late legend musician, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti which has gone viral on social media observed that he became sober, contrary to his earlier hard posture while assaulting the policeman.
Penpushing further reports that the Lagos Stats Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the appearance of the musician on his Twitter handle adding that he is currently being placed under arrest.
The police spokesperson explained that Kuti’s arrest was in line with the law, and equally expressed appreciation to the public for their concern and assures that the ongoing investigation will be detailed, transparent, professionally pursued; and justice will be manifestly served for all parties involved.
Penpushing also reports that it is recalled that the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered the Lagos State Police Command Commissioner to arrest of the musician for allegedly assaulting a police officer in uniform.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi said in a statement that the Inspector General of Police has equally ordered a speedy and full investigation into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the assault and prosecution of the suspect accordingly.
Penpushing further reports that the police boss assured Nigerians that acts of contempt/disdain for symbols of authority will not be tolerated while offenders of such hideous crimes will be surely brought to book.
The report has captured in a viral video showed how the Grammy-nominated afrobeat artist assaulted the police operative on duty, while he (Kuti) was seen lambasting the policeman after slapping him, but the policemen kept his cool
Penpushing also reports that the musician was heard in the video telling the police man that he was crazy and mad, and landed slap on him, while a source said Kuti’s car was stopped by the police officer on an expressway in Lagos, which did not go down well with him.
