Pickpocket arrested with 240 stolen mobile phones

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 24 year old suspected pickpocket identified as Ayomide Sikiru a resident of Akala, Mushin, for alleged stealing of over 240 mobile phones from Lagos commuters.

Penpushing reports that, the Command Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi disclosed this, explaining that, the suspect apprehended by  the men of Rapid Response Squad (RRS),  has disclosed that he has stolen over 240 mobile phones from Lagos commuters.

The alleged pickpocket was said to have successfully picked a Tecno Camon 12 from the hand bag of an elderly woman when she was trying to board a commercial bus to Ojodu-Berger, Lagos before nemesis caught up with him.

Penpushing further reports that, Adejobi said, the suspect, after stealing the phone, tried to alight from the bus but was restrained by a passenger who challenged him to return the phone he stole, which he denied,

The police spokesman said he was thereafter searched by the Rapid Respond Squad(RRS) stationed at Iyana Oworo  and recovered the phone along with an iphone 7 and another mobile phone from his bag.

Penpushing also reports that, the command said, the owners of the phones had been contacted immediately, adding that the suspect disclosed that he has been in the business of pickpocketing for a year and two months after learning the  illega business in 15 days from  one Sakiru.

Meanwhile, Adejobi added that, the suspect also  confessed that he operates only on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, adding that the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti,  Yaba, for proper investigation.
