ANOTHER BUILDING COLLAPSED IN IBADAN, EIGHT INJURED
“We have been complaining to the site Engineer that the pole that was used to support the deck was not strong enough to hold it, but all our advice was rendered useless as the site Engineer was only concern about the completion of the work, although, nobody died in the collapsed building, but eight persons were wounded and they have been taking to Jericho Specialist Hospital for treatment”, he said.
Penpushing further reports that, Olatunji Bolu who was a representative of the Oyo State Architectural Registration Council of Nigeria while speaking with journalists said that the council was still assessing the incident to know the causes and how to find a solution to it.
His words, “Firstly, we need to do a critical investigation so that we can know the actual cause of the incident, and talk to the contractor of the project, then we can know the exact cause of the incident”.
The Council representative noted that the building collapsed incident is not only limited to Ibadan alone, but it cut across the country, adding that professionals should be always employed to work on construction.
“We should stop using people who are not qualify to be in charge of constructions in Nigeria, licenced and professional people should be saddled with the responsibilities of construction work, not the novices.”
Penpushing also reports that, the Oyo State Physical Planning and Urban Development has at the time of filing this report sealed the site, ordering the stoppage of work at the site till further notice.
