Anger over Nigerian wife’s secret burial of 72-year-old husband in Canada

The aggrieved members of Ekitikete Canada have expressed bitterness over their former Vice President’s alleged secret burial of her husband, Dr. Pius Ilesanmi Onile.

Penpushing reports that sources within the association alleged that Mrs. Rachael Adetutu Onile, behaved against the Yoruba tradition, which their association is trying to promote, by secretly burying her Emure Ekiti, Ekiti State born husband without their knowledge and family members of the deceased in Canada.

“Our members are not happy with the attitude of the woman.  No one knew how she buried her husband who is from Emure-Ekiti like us.  Even, sources said that the family members in Canada were not aware not to talk of the husband’s relatives in Nigeria,” the impeccable source said.

“Her attitude is unlike Yoruba tradition; that is why some of us are not happy over her behaviour.  Is she hiding anything?  Unfortunately, she may have convinced the children not to tell the family members, because the children did not tell the family members that their father died; it is their mother that is controlling them against the family”.the source added

Penpushing further reports that, it was learnt that since the death of her husband, a father of four children who came to Canada in 1974, Adetutu had ceased communication with the late Canadian man family members.

The source added that Adetutu alleged to have clandestinely took her husband, who is from Oloje family of Emure-Ekiti, away from his abode, and prevented the family members from seeing him after he was admitted in the hospital before his death.

“It is true that the man has been sick since 2006 with a stroke, but he was still okay.  He was living alone without his wife, but I learnt that his elder brother and another family member were visiting him until the woman took him away on suspicious ground,” another member of the association said.

“She was once our Vice President, but that does not mean we should not speak the truth on her surprising behaviour which is against Yoruba customs and tradition.  We don’t treat our dead ones in such secrecy; it is worrisome and unfortunate, and look suspicious”, the member of the association emphasised

Penpushing also reports that efforts to speak with the family members of the deceased proved abortive, but Adetutu declined to comments when asked for her reactions about three weeks after reaching out to her on WhatsApp and up till the time of filing this reports Adetutu refused to explain her own side of the story.
