Anambra State Poll: Deputy Governor displays ballot paper after thumbprinting

The  Anambra State Deputy Governor, Nkem Okeke on Saturday openly displayed his ballot paper after thumbprinting, saying that  he did that to dispel the rumour making the round that he had re-defected to his former party, the All Peoples Grand Alliance(APGA)

Penpushing reports that, Okeke said he is satisfied with the conduct of the election, adding that the new technology, the Biometric Voters Accreditation System (BVAS), introduced by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the poll was in order.

“I had to reveal my ballot paper because there have been rumours that I had defected back to APGA, but that is not true. You just saw that I voted for my party, APC,” the Deputy Governor said.

The Deputy Governor who voted  at the Umueze Awozu, Enugwu-Ukwu Ward 3, polling unit 005, while speaking noted that the high turnout of voters delayed him for some time before he could cast his vote.

Penpushing further reports that, he commended the use of Biometric Voters Accreditation System (BVAS), pointing out that it presented a seamless voting process, describing the method as easiest to be experienced.

“This is the easiest that I have had in voting experience ever; the process is unified and as you can see, I have just voted. In previous elections, I have always had problem with fingerprint; but this is different, ’’ he said.

Penpushing also reports that, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the State, Mr Ukwuchukwu Orji, in an interview with journalists in Awka, the state capital, noted that if the issue of delay because of malfunctioning voting machines was not addressed, the deadline would be extended for another day.

The chairman who announced extension of voting deadline to 4 p.m. explained that, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) decided to extend voting deadline because of some glitches in the machines.

Penpushing reports that, Orji said that the extension would enable voters to participate in the process and assured that the commission would ensure that all registered voters got the opportunity to exercise their franchise.
