Suspended Ogun state lawmaker, Dare Kadiri blocks assembly gate

The embattled impeached Deputy Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon Dare Kadiri on Tuesday blocked the gate of the assembly in protest of refusal to allow him back to his office, following court order reinstating him

Penpushing reports that it is recalled that Kadiri representing Ijebu North State Constituency 2 at the Assembly was removed as Deputy Speaker by his colleagues in March 2022 following a petition accusing him of abuse of office, threat to lives and properties, conduct likely to cause breach of peace and attempted murder allegedly in his constituency.

The other accusations include insubordination to the office of the Speaker through un-authorised approval of expenditure, involving an external body in the affairs of the House without exploring internal mechanism for resolution of issues

Penpushing further reports that the suspended lawmaker, thereafter headed to court, and on April 1, 2023 the high court sitting in Abeokuta held that the suspension was an abuse of power and abuse of office by the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt Hon Olakunle Oluomo, the House of Assembly and the Clerk of the House.

The findings, however, revealed that despite the judgement in favour of Kadiri, the assembly leadership was alleged not to have allowed him back to office, hence, the aggrieved lawmaker resolved to cause mild drama as he blocked the gate to the assembly complex.

Penpushing also reports that the lawmaker was seen being pacified by some security operatives within the vicinity, but declared to them in clear term that if now allowed to his office, none of his colleagues would have access to the assembly complex

The staffers of the assembly, following the ugly development resolved to take a foot path in gaining access to the complex and their various offices as at the time of the incident, when this story was been filed
