America based Adeboye’s in-law eyes Owa Obokun of Ijesaland throne

The brother-in-law of Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Bayo Adeyokunnu is been rumoured to be eyeing Owa Obokun of Ijesaland throne after demise of Oba Adekunle Aromolaran which occurred September 12, 2024

Penpushing reports that the 70-year-old United States of America (USA), a Pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) is the younger brother of Folu Adeboye, wife of the church General Overseer.

The source disclosed that Adeyokunmu has reportedly indicated interest in contesting for the vacant throne, just as it was reported that the General Overseer of the world known church dropped a hint recently during Adeyokunnu’s 70th birthday celebration in America, where Adeyokunnu currently serves as the Deputy Continental overseer of the church.

Penpushing further reports that Adeyokunmu is said to be preparing for retirement from the church having clocked 70, while it is recalled that Adeboye while praying at the birthday ceremony held on 26 October 26, 2024 at Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Victory Temple, Bowie, Maryland, America said  Adeyokunnu may be the next traditional ruler of the ancient town.

The General Overseer of the famous church in a video was reported to have described his brother-in-law  as a prayer warrior and dedicated Christian, emohasising that he had known him for about 60 years, adding that the duo bonded together speedily.

‘I have known him before I got married to his sister and that is for about 60 years now. He is the first friend I would have in the Adeyokunnu family apart from my wife. He was not a big man like this. He was like then the little Bayo. But we bonded together speedily’, Adeboye added.

‘He also got born again under my ministry. I can still remember the sermon I preached that day, titled, ‘Come and Drink’, and he is still drinking today. Every opportunity he had he would want to get a little more. He is a warrior. He can pray anything out of you’, he stated.

Penpushing also reports that Adeboye explained why he chose to pray in Yoruba, explaining that you don’t speak English in the presence of a traditional ruler in Yorubaland, stressing that he(Adeboye) is also Ijesaman,

“For your information, you don’t speak English in the presence of a monarch in our land because I am also from Ijeshaland.  So I will not pray in English for him because he is a prince and maybe the next king’, he added

Penpushing reports that Adeyokunnu  is said to be from the Bilaro ruling house and  a great-great-son of Kabiyesi Ofokutu I, and  obtained a degree in English Studies from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University).

The cleric while at the institution, committed his life to Christ and once served as Vice President of the Student Christian Movement, while in 1989, was commissioned as Assistant Pastor of the Victoria Island Parsh of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and later pastored the Glory Living Spring Parish in 1992.

Penpushing further reports that Adeyokunnu in 1993, moved to Florida, America where he pastored a church alongside Obed in Tallahassee and started the Victory Temple in 1996 with about 50 members, while the church has grown to over 2,000 members.

The clergyman who could not be reach for comment as at the time of filing this report is married to Margaret, with three children, and if he is eventually crowned as the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, he will be the second Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor to become a traditional ruler in recent times.

Penpushing also reports that it is recalled that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State in September 2023 approved Pastor Afolabi Olaoye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) as the new Soun of Ogbomoso, an ancient town in the state.

The clergyman was crowned in December 2023 and until his selection, he oversaw the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Jesus House branch in Washington, DC of United States of America (USA), while his selection, has generated argument from some quarters asking why he should leave God’s work to become a traditional ruler.

Penpushing reports that Olaoye explained that he heard from God to become the traditional ruler over his town and that God told him he was born to be a king, which was the reason for his birth.

‘I heard God tell me on January 2, 2022, that becoming the Soun of Ogbomoso was my destiny. The next thing I heard, clearly, ‘You were born for this; this is the reason for your birth.’ That’s what I heard. Of course, that’s not what I was expecting. But, let me tell you this is what I heard, I am 10/10,” he said.
