ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS ASKS AMOSUN TO PRESENT MANIFEST OF AMMUNITIONS ALLEGEDLY HANDED OVER TO POLICE
“With the latest discovery, questions must be asked from the former Governor. Let him show the origin and manifest of the arms. The handover of such huge arms and ammunition is a confirmation of our pre-election outcry that the state was unsafe and that the Governor was stockpiling arms and ammunitions for the purpose of wreaking havoc”, the party emphasized
The party added that, the former Governor should be brought to book over this serious allegation, stressing that “If Amosun is not brought to account, then people will continue to mock the rule of law. We will like to thank the Federal Government for deploring soldiers to Ogun State during the election. If not for that, the story would have been different and more lives would have been lost’.
“For the first time in the history of elections in Southwest Nigeria, Ogun State was policed by four Commissioners of Police. Ogun State was not only identified as the darkest spot, it was also used as the Operation Centre for in the South West by the Police and the SSS,”Oladunjoye added.
Penpushing further reports that, the party posited that, the former Governor must now answer for all his alleged brutality against its members during the election, as well as where he came about the huge weapons haul.
“Our supporters were maimed and killed during our campaign and nothing has happened. A Governorship candidate of political party led thugs to attack collation Centre in Ipokia LG, nothing has happened’.
‘The following day, a policeman was killed in an ambush while escorting results from Ipokia LG, nothing has happened. Was there any difference between the volume imported and the one handed over to the police? Who has control over the purchase, storage, distributions and use of arms and ammunitions between the Inspector General of Police and a State Governor?
“The Abeokuta metropolis has recently witnessed an upsurge in armed robbery that the government of Dapo Abiodun is now tackling decisively. What can the upsurge be traced to?”, the party also noted
Penpushing recalled that, Amosun before and during the 2019 general elections had a running battle with All Progressives Congress(APC), which he is a member, and supported the Governorship Candidate of Allied Peoples Movement(APM)
The former who contested the Ogun Central Senatorial District under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and won, was subsequently suspended by the party, and yet to be re-admitted as at the time of filing this report.
Penpushing further reports that, in a related development, Ogun State Commissioner, Bashir Makama was quoted to have denied receiving such large number of rifles and ammunitions from the former Governor.
The Police boss was said to have explained that, he disarmed the former Governor when leaving office as a normal routine, adding that contrary to the claim of 1,000 AK47 rifles and four million ammunition, the physical counting of the ammunition showed there were “one million, four hundred thousand and some fractions,” a variation from the four million the former governor told him while he was being disarmed.
Penpushing also reports that, the police boss in further explanation said checks into police records showed that the said weapons were handed over to the police authorities in 2012, and that he didn’t see any weapon during the disarming process.
“i did not see any weapon. All he gave to the police the day he was disarmed are ammunition, ballistic helmet and body armour. I am new in the state; this is somebody who has been governor for eight years’, Makama explained.
“i came in and one day when he was about going, he said cp, i have some materials i want to handover to you. Even if he didn’t buy them for the police or didn’t hand them over, i have a responsibility to disarm him and that was what i did’.
“The ammunition was not up to four million as alleged. The former governor said four million but when we counted, we found out it was one million, four hundred and a little fraction/ i found out the 1,000 ak47 rifles were bought for them (police) in 2012. He had given them in 2012. That is the record i have”, he emphasised
