Alake of Egbaland holds private meeting with Oba of Benin

The traditional ruler of Benin Kingdom,  Omo ‘N’ Oba N’edo, Eburewa 11 on Wednesday visited Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, a courtesy call regarded as Royal visit held at Ake palace in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital.

Penpushing reports that, Oba of Benin  arrived the palace  at about 2.20pm, with his chiefs and  were ushered in by  Oba Gbadebo which include  other notable traditional rulers in the ancient town : Oba Adedapo Tejuoso(Osile Oke-Ona) ,Oba Saburee Bakre(Agura of Gbagura),as well as high chiefs of Egbaland which include: Alhaji Tunji Sarafa Ishola(Nigeria Ambassador to United Kingdom), Bode Mustapha(Osi of Egbaland), Dr Femi Majekodun(Bada of Egbaland), Tosin Fadare(Seriki) and Adebayo Soyoye(Akogun).

The Alake of Egbaland who spoke about long years relationship between Benin and Egbas kingdoms, however, during the visit took time to show his visitor the first Bible in Nigeria, brought to Abeokuta by the missionaries in the course of evangelism.

Penpushing further reports that, Gbadebo who went memory lane, on relationship between Egba and Benin, said the visit was another round of good relationship between the two ancient towns, adding that it was great to have the Benin monarch in Egba palace after number of decades

The Nigerian Ambassador to United Kingdom, Alhaji Sarafa Tunji Ishola who facilitated the visit said in his brief remarks that, the visit  was to further cement the relationship of the two ancient towns, adding that the relationship is being nurture to go to places

Penpushing also reports that, the visiting monarch in his speech disclosed that he has been eager to visit Egbaland, where he recalled his grandfather had earlier resided, noting that the two towns have similarity in history culture and other activities

‘I want to thank HIs Royal Majesty for this reception. Things happened for a reason. God work in mysterious way. I never thought I will be in Abeokuta. And here I am today. I always have it in mind to visit Abeokuta, even before my coronation. I have learnt about Abeokuta. There is similarity in historical, cultural activities .It is not ordinary that Abeokuta and Benin has things in common”, he said

Penpushing reports that, the traditional ruler speaking on the return  artifacts, expressed appreciation to the efforts of the country ambassador towards ensuring the return, and  called for further efforts, in getting those artifacts still in the foreignland.

The royal father disclosed that arrangement was in the pipeline for the construction and establishment of Benin Royal Museum where all the recovered artifacts would be housed; adding that, returns of all artifacts should be handed over to the palace and not government
