Alaafin’s son accuses Governor Makinde of diversion of project

A federal lawmaker representing Afijio/Oyo East/Oyo West/ Atiba Federal Constituency, Hon. Akeem Adeyemi has accused Governor Seyi Makinde for alleged diversion of Police Mobile Squadron that was meant for Oyo town to Ago-Are area of the state.

Penpushing reports that, the lawmaker who is the son of Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi said this while featuring on a live radio programme on Saturday in Ibadan, adding that  in view of this, residents and indigenes of the town are not happy with the Governor .

The Chairman, House Committee on Communication noted that six new Police Mobile Squadron was to be established across the country which Oyo town was among the places listed for the establishment of the projects, but to the surprised of the people in Oyo town, the project was diverted to Ago-Are by the Governor.

“Alaafin used his personal relationship with President Buhari, been the person that appointed him as the Chancellor of Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto in 1978 to facilitate many projects to Oyo town, Oyo State, and Southwest at large which the Police Mobile Squadron is not exempted’, he stated.

Penpushing further reports that,Adeyemi noted that the purpose of the request to established the Police Mobile Squadron in Oyo town was to curb the rate of crimes and criminality in the town and its environs, adding that Oyo people are not happy with governor Makinde because they feels cheated and denial of their right to security.

“Alaafin officially wrote to President Buhari through the Inspector General of Police, requesting for the establishement of Police Mobile Squadrons to be established at Oyo town, a reminder letter was later sent to the IG last year December, which the Police sent a complementary letter back.”

“In fact, I was the one that received the delegation of Alaafin in Abuja and led them to the IG, after that, I also met the IG myself concerning the project, we were surprised to see that the project was later moved to Ago-Are by Governor Makinde as it was against the order of the President that the project should be sited in Oyo town.”

Penpushing also reports that the  Prince maintained that this is not the first time Oyo town will be attracting the attention of the Federal Government, saying that the pains of the people in the town must turned to gain.

The federal lawmaker cited the example of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) unit, and the Immigration Passport Office located in Oyo, saying that all these are done so that there will be no need to be coming to Ibadan before the people of Oyo town and its environs can have access to them.

Penpushing a reports that  Adeyemi however appealed to the Governor to make ammend and do the needful before the issue led to something else among the people of the state.

Meanwhile, it is recall that  Makinde, commissioned Police Mobile Squadron at Ago-Are, as part of projects to mark his one year in office as the Governor of Oyo State which has generated a lot of controversies in some quarters.
