AJIMOBI, AMOSUN CALLS FOR PEACE AS COUNTRY HONOURS FALLEN HEROES

Hear him “Let us embrace peace to have a free and fair election in 2019, let us unite ourselves and continue to sacrifice for Nigeria’, and further explained that in sacrificing for Nigeria, we must maintain peace, tranquility, progress and sustain development.

“We should all leave in the spirit of this Armed forces remembrance day celebrations portraits the unity and progress of our country and our state, our gallant officers that are still serving should continue to protect the country, they should continue to ensure that the integrity of Nigeria is maintained in all  ramifications”, Ajimobi said

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division Nigerian Army, (NA) Major General Okwudili Fidelis Azinta said the Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an event set aside to remember the past heroes who had fallen in the battle field, and there is also a need for officers of the armed forces to appreciate the support the government gives them”

“We are here to appreciate the support we are receiving from the government, and the support we received from the masses. The armed forces remembrance day is a day that the government also use to appreciate the military for what they are doing and for all those that had laid down their life for the unity of this country to remain secured, so each time we are celebrating as an officers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, we shows appreciations we have received from the government, and also the one we received from the people’.

“Everywhere in the world, Armed forces had done well, so we are very grateful to the government for the support we enjoyed and we are very grateful to Nigeria people for their support as well. I urge the government and good people of Nigeria to continue to support us, as we cannot achieve anything much better without their support, and we appreciate their commitment in making sure Nigeria remain peaceful

Penpushing also reports that, Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun enjoined Nigerians to embrace peace and live in unity, irrespective of religion, tribe or political affiliation, for the labours of the fallen heroes not to be in vain.

He  made the call at the end of activities marking this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day, held at the Arcade Ground, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, and  also encouraged Nigerians to promote peaceful co-existence and discard acts culpable of causing disunity in the country.

The Governor who spoke with journalists shortly after the ceremony, said the supreme price paid by the fallen heroes could best be appreciated if Nigerians sustain the unity existing in the country and remember to assist the families they left behind. 

The annual celebration had in attendance; Service Chiefs from Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Legion, traditional rulers, top government functionaries, and the general public.

 The Governor alongside Service Chiefs and the four Paramount Rulers in the state laid  wreaths in memory of the fallen heroes with  the release of 57 white pigeons, representing the 20 Local Governments and the 37 Local Council Development Areas in the State, which also symbolises national peace.
